Springlands

Loot enemies and break metal cages near the bridge for Metal Scraps. These Springlands pickups are the earliest place to get Metal Scraps in Enshrouded for the Forge and Grappling Hook. You can collect them before you own either item.

How to Get Metal Scraps in Enshrouded: Springlands

Kill and loot Scavengers, break metal objects, and collect loose Metal Scraps in Springlands.

Bridge Enemies and Metal Cages

Search the bridge area for enemies, loot their bodies, then break the nearby metal cages. One player collected 2 Metal Scraps from a bridge enemy before getting the rest they needed from cages. Treat that as one haul, rather than a fixed drop amount.

The Metal Scraps +2 line appears in the pickup list on the left after you loot the bridge enemy.

Enemies along the route to the sleeping survivor, the Blacksmith, also drop scraps. Loot them while you're following that quest instead of leaving the bodies behind.

Rookmore and Longkeep: Earlier Routes

Rookmore is west of Braelyn Bridge. The January 25, 2024 route reached it without a Grappling Hook by entering the Shroud below the bridge and heading west. Once there, kill and loot the Scavengers.

That same early route included breaking large white boxes at Longkeep and the Blacksmith rescue location. Some players found these especially productive, so they're worth checking when you're already nearby.

Roads and enemy camps changed with the full release. Treat the older Rookmore approach as a direction to explore, and prioritize enemies and cages you can already reach rather than following every old turn literally.

How to Farm Metal Scraps in Enshrouded: Enemies, Then Cages

For a straightforward early run, loot the bridge enemies and dismantle nearby metal cages before moving to another location. Combining both pickups keeps you from leaving useful scraps behind in an area you've already cleared.

  1. Clear enemies first. Pull Scavengers apart or attack from range with a bow so they don't gang up on you. If you have Sneak Attack, a stealth opening can help.
  2. Loot every body. Get close enough to spot dropped items, which can blend into the ground.
  3. Break the metal cages nearby. Collect the scraps before leaving. Don't assume every object that looks metallic gives the same result.
  4. Check your crafting needs back at base. Reserve scraps for the Grappling Hook before feeding your whole supply into the Forge.

Don't plan your run around restarting to refill chests. Looted chests retain their state through a reload or server restart; restarting won't reroll their contents.

What Metal Scraps Are Used For: Grappling Hook and Forge

Save Metal Scraps for your Grappling Hook, Forge construction, and the Forge's metal plate processing.

Craft and Equip the Grappling Hook

Keep a supply of raw scraps until you've crafted the hook. When crafting finishes, you'll see Special Item Acquired! Grappling Hook.

Then open your backpack, select the Grappling Hook, and choose Equip. Crafting it is only part of the job; you need to equip it to use it.

Feed the Forge Without Spending Your Hook Supply

The Forge turns Charcoal and Metal Scraps into metal plates. The resource slots take 2 Charcoal and 2 Metal Scraps for this recipe; the output is labeled Metal Sheets in the menu.

Scraps also go into early crafts such as Nails and the Scrappy Pickaxe. Make the item blocking your next step before processing everything into sheets.

What Changed for Metal Scraps: Recipes and Chest Reloads

Early crafting recipes were reworked for the full release, and reloading no longer resets looted chests.
